Be the first to RankCodeMirror is a JavaScript library that can be used to create a relatively pleasant editor interface for code-like content ― computer programs, HTML markup, and similar. If a parser has been written for the language you are editing (see below for a list of supported languages), the code will be coloured, and the editor will help you with indentation. The Poetic Prophet (AKA The SEO Rapper) is back with another marketing rap. This time he describes how web standards and proper design can affect the ranking and conversion of pages on your site.
lyrics:Your site design is the first thing people see
it should be reflective of you and the industry
easy to look at with a nice navigation
when you can't find what you want it causes frustration
a clear Call to action to increase the temptation
use appealing graphics they create motivation
if you have animation
use with moderation
cause search engines can't index the information

Be the first to RankFor a recent client project, we wanted to be able to turn a list of YouTube links into a playlist. This would allow the client to manage their videos on YouTube and simply insert links to the videos on their site. With javascript enabled a nice playlist is created, whilst without javasript the user gets a regular list of links to youtube pages. Location: jQuery

JavaScript Date and Time Object 27/03/2010
Rate:
Be the first to RankThe Date object is useful when you want to display a date or use a timestamp in some sort of calculation. In Java, you can either make a Date object by supplying the date of your choice, or you can let JavaScript create a Date object based on your visitor's system clock. It is usually best to let JavaScript simply use the system clock. Location: JavaScript

Area select in jQuery and PHP 16/02/2010
Rate:
Very slick "area select" on-top of images plugin for jQuery. You can use it in your projects to create image "tags" or "tooltips" like Facebook does, or Flickr does even better. As usual for jQuery awesomeness, this is pretty easy to integrate.

And here's somebody that shows a validation processor in PHP that can crop the select area and save as an image.

Managing Hierarchical Data in MySQL 16/02/2010

We all use databases to store our data around our applications, storing user settings and data received from client. If you ever had to create a category parent/child relationship in a e-commerce store for instance, this is a very good article explaining both ways and explaining the whole idea and schema of this wonderful way of easily managing a nice tree of categories that you may need for your posts, real-estate properties, products, groups, and so on.
Take in mind that this is only intended for a single parent/child approach, one to many. Location: Database

Create rounded corners in your design without images manipulation 13/02/2010

Be the first to RankAbout a year or two ago I wrote a quick demo on doing rounded corners in just CSS without using images, mostly as an exercise to see what's involved. Since then my knowledge of CSS has doubled, maybe even tripled - so here I'm going to present 'cleaner' versions of those methods. I did a second example just a month back, and after presenting it on several forums I was linked to other methods of doing this, and decided to condense the best of all techniques down to a single easy to deploy version.
