CodeMirror is a JavaScript library that can be used to create a relatively pleasant editor interface for code-like content ― computer programs, HTML markup, and similar. Sure, differing rendering engines don’t always agree on everything, but for the most part we can at least find ways to mitigate variance through workarounds, or by writing for the lowest common denominator. By far, one of the most frustrating parts of dealing with browser inconsistencies has got to be forms. There are two distinctively differing schools of thought regarding (not) styling form elements. For the longest time, we’ve had people on both sides of the proverbial fence, neither group..

Did you know that Adobe Photoshop is 20 years old and Illustrator has been around over 24 years? I’ve been using Photoshop since version 5 and Illustrator since version 8. It is amazing to see how they are progressively improving and adding more features. Now with vector features and 3D tools, Photoshop is no longer just an image editing tool. The same goes with Illustrator, Bristle Brushes were added to simulate bitmap drawing. I’ve been using CS5 for several months so in this post, I’m going to share my thoughts on CS5.

Internet technologists have long known that HTTP is insecure, causing many risks to users. The release of Firesheep made one of these risks concrete and obvious to even non-technical folks. While HTTPS has long existed as a reasonable way to improve web security, web operators have been slow to host their applications with it. In part, this is because correctly and completely hosting an application with HTTPS takes some care. This article is designed to help web operators get a conceptual handle on how to protect their users with HTTPS. Taking a little bit of care to protect your users is..

Just about every framework ever written has some kind of hello world example included, so it'd be pretty rude of us to break this tradition! We'll start out by creating a very very basic hello world, and then we'll expand it to follow MVC principles.

Captchas are used to protect your site by showing something that a computer can't recognize but a human can. They are usually placed on your registration page but they can be placed anywhere you want to make reasonably sure you are dealing with a person and not a bot. Kohana's Captcha library can currently generates basic, alpha, word, math, riddle captchas. Captcha configuration is defined in groups which allows you to easily switch between different Captcha settings for different forms on your website.

About a year or two ago I wrote a quick demo on doing rounded corners in just CSS without using images, mostly as an exercise to see what's involved. Since then my knowledge of CSS has doubled, maybe even tripled - so here I'm going to present 'cleaner' versions of those methods. I did a second example just a month back, and after presenting it on several forums I was linked to other methods of doing this, and decided to condense the best of all techniques down to a single easy to deploy version.
